Our RFoG MDU delivers the same services as an DOCSIS network, with the added benefit of improved noise performance and increased usable RF spectrum in both the downstream and return-path directions.
PL20-4A: High-Gain RFoG MDU for FTTB & Multi-Dwelling Networks
A powerful 1.2GHz RFoG terminal delivering ultra-high RF output levels to support multi-user distribution in modern FTTB and complex coaxial environments.
- MDU RF Performance: Engineered for multi-dwelling units, the PL20-4A RFoG MDU delivers an exceptional output level of up to 112dBµV, providing sufficient budget to drive extensive indoor coaxial cable networks.
- DOCSIS 3.1 / 1218MHz Ready: Fully compliant with DOCSIS 3.1 standards, this node supports an expanded frequency range up to 1.2GHz, ensuring future-proof capacity for gigabit data and 4K video.
- Switchable Burst Mode: Features a dedicated physical button to toggle Burst Mode. This gives engineers the flexibility to eliminate OBI (Optical Beat Interference) or switch to continuous mode for specific network troubleshooting.
- GPON Integration: Includes an internal WDM filter and a GPON Pass port (1310/1490nm), allowing for a clean overlay of CATV services onto existing high-speed fiber broadband infrastructures.
- AGC Stability: The integrated Optical AGC (-6 to +2dBm) maintains a rock-solid RF output, compensating for optical link fluctuations to ensure consistent service quality for all subscribers in the building.
Technical FAQ: PL20-4A RFoG MDU
Q1: Why is the 112dBuV output critical for an RFoG MDU?
A: Unlike residential SDU nodes, an RFoG MDU must overcome the high insertion loss of multi-way splitters and long coaxial runs within a building. The PL20-4A’s high output eliminates the need for additional post-amplifiers, reducing system noise and overall deployment costs for FTTB projects.
Q2: How does the PL20-4A mitigate upstream noise in a busy MDU?
A: By utilizing Burst Mode operation, the return path transmitter only activates during active DOCSIS data transmission. This prevents the “noise funneling” effect common in traditional HFC networks and significantly improves the Upstream Modulation Error Ratio (MER) for all connected users.
Q3: Is this MDU node compatible with legacy DOCSIS 3.0?
A: Yes. While optimized for DOCSIS 3.1 (1218MHz), the PL20-4A RFoG MDU is fully backward compatible with DOCSIS 3.0. It supports various diplex frequency splits (e.g., 42/54MHz, 65/86MHz) to match your existing headend configuration.
