Premlink plays a vital role in designing and manufacturing CATV optical transmitter. As a leading manufacturer, we use high-quality DFB lasers at 1310nm and 1550nm wavelengths to turn RF signals (47–1218 MHz) into reliable optical signals for long-distance HFC network deployment.
What is a CATV Optical Transmitter in HFC Networks?
CATV Optical Transmitter is a device that converts an RF digital TV signal or an analog TV signal at a frequency of 47 MHz-1002 MHz or 1218 MHz to an optical signal by using a high-performance DFB and high isolation laser as a light source to produce a 1310 nm or 1550 nm wavelength for long-distance optical transmission.
Premlink Engineering: High-Performance RF Pre-distortion Technology
Premlink CATV optical transmitters use our self-designed Automatic Gain Control (AGC) processing technology and advanced digital RF pre-distortion circuit, ensuring high performance on CTB/CSO/CNR and making them the top choice for large-scale HFC network deployment.

CATV Optical Transmitter Selection Guide: 1310nm vs. 1550nm
Premlink manufactures CATV Optical Transmitter in different models. You can choose 1310nm optical fiber transmitter and 1550nm optical fiber transmitter. Let’s take a closer look at them.
1310nm optical transmitter (direct modulation)
It is direct modulation type, however, usually people doest put “direct modulation” into it. The working wavelength is 1310nm as it’s light source, 1310nm transmitter regular that works for long years in the past.
1550nm direct modulation optical transmitter for GPON Coexistence
DFB laser inside, works with wavelength 1550nm as it’s light source. At present, the most transmitter is 1550nm. As the network is more complex, 1310nm is for GPON that cannot exist 2nd 1310nm in one fiber.
1550nm externally modulation optical transmitter
It has optical modulator inside that make the performance much better. It has one output and two output version for different applications. It is the ideal equipment to transmit optical signal for a long distance.
1310nm vs. 1550nm CATV Optical Transmitter

High Grade Materials for High Reliability: EMCORE Laser & Rubycon Capacitor
CATV optical transmitter is an important device in optical communication systems, transforming electrical signals into optical signals for transmission via optical fibers. Its main components are a light source and a driving circuit, which work together to assure the quality and stability of the optical signal.
Premlink CATV Optical Transmitter has high quality materials in use. The key important light source- DFB laser, we adopt famous EMOCRE DFB lasers. and the high reliability- power supply module, we use the RUBYCON-Black Gate capacitor, which helps our CATV optical transmitter works for a very long time.
More than 15 years improvement, the design becomes perfect. It is highly reliable by using imported high performance DFB laser. It can work long-term years without any stopping.

Key Applications: From Backbone to FTTH Distribution
1. CATV Optical Backbone & Long-Distance Trunk
When combined with a 1550nm external modulation optical transmitter, it was principally used in CATV optical backbone systems with transmission distances of up to 200 km.
2. Multipoint Distribution & RF Overlay on PON
When using 1310nm and 1550nm direct modulation optical transmitters, combine with CATV EDFA to create a distribution system. As the cost of external transmitters decreases, they become increasingly desirable for deployment in large multipoint distribution networks.
When a 1550nm direct modulation optical transmitter is used with several channels, it causes distortion in the receive signal. When applied with CATV EDFA, additional distortion may occur if the maximum launch power requirements are not reached. Non-linearity reduces performance. As the transmission distance increases and more channels are added, distortion may grow. The 1550nm external modulation CATV optic transmitter solves these issues.
Benfits of Choosing Premlink CATV Optical Transmitter
Improve Signal Quality
One of the most significant advantages of CATV optical transmitters is the ability to retain good signal quality. Unlike typical copper cables, which suffer signal deterioration over extended distances, optical fibers retain the transmission bright and clear.
Long Transmission Distance
CATV optical transmitters shine when it comes to distance. They can transmit signals over kilometers without losing quality. This is particularly useful for cable companies that need to serve vast areas without refreshing or boosting signal strength repeatedly.
Excellent Budget-Friendly
We made it into cost-effective from design to production. Its affordability provides the most efficient and practical use of the budget that is likely to support your brand promotion and projects.
FAQ:Premlink CATV Optical Transmitter
The wavelength and use are the main differences. 1310nm transmitters are usually used for shorter distances (up to 20km) and are more common in networks that send and receive data. 1550nm transmitters, especially those that are modulated from the outside, are made for long-distance transmission (up to 120km+) and XGSPON coexistence in backbone networks. This is because the 1550nm wavelength has less fiber attenuation and less signal distortion.
he distance and complexity of your network's transmission will help you decide. A 1310nm or 1550nm direct modulation transmitter is a good choice for short distances because it doesn't cost much. A 1550nm externally modulated optical transmitter is the best choice for long-distance backbone links that need high signal quality.
A DFB (Distributed Feedback) laser is important because it gives you a single, stable longitudinal mode with a narrow spectral width. This makes the noise (RIN) lower and the linearity higher, which are both important for carrying analog and digital TV signals from multiple channels without distortion.
Our PL1550G series externally modulated optical transmitters can send signals up to 120KM. When used with optical amplifiers in a backbone network, they can send signals up to 200KM.
